San Pedro de Atacama

Okay, apologies because blog posts are getting a bit sporadic recently. The reason being that as we run out of money we find ourselves living more like gypsies everyday (and not the rich gypsies who charge you a fortune to do a dodgy job of tarmacing your driveway and all drive bmw M3's and brand new hilux's!! I'm talking about the poor one's who live out of tents and cook using a camping stove). Hence, campsites have wifi a lot less often than hostels, but will try to update more often as the further South we head, the better the campsites seem to get.

Anyway, a couple of weeks ago now we were in San Pedro de Atacama, a little town close to the border of Bolivia and Argentina. It's a really nice little town with some amazing scenery and lots of things to do surrounding it. Was very busy due to the fact that it was a public holiday but was nice to see the Chileans partying and having a good time.

Despite our recent car troubles, it was nice to have wheels to explore the surrounding area and saved us a bit of money on tours. We went to a saline lake nearby where you can swim and float in a way very similar to the dead sea because of the high concentration of salt in the water. Alas, the photos just can't describe just how cold the water was!

As well as visiting a salt plain nearby we also went sandboarding in "Death Valley", which turned out to be a lot of fun. Had sand in my ears for a week after one particular stack, good fun for using the gopro though, still working on downsizing vids so I can post them. Will update and post a couple of clips once I've worked it out.
