Desert Rats

After San Pedro we were keen to get a bit of surf as it had been a while since we'd been in the water. On our way North a couple of months ago we'd passed through a tiny little surf town in the desert called Portofino. Last time we were here there was no swell, however this time there was a bit and while it wasn't pumping, there was definitely some fun little waves to be had on the RH reef.

The surf hostel we stayed at was right infront of the wave a block back from the beach and run by a super friendly couple and their son. All the electricity at the hostel comes from solar power and in the couple of months since we'd stayed here last they'd invested in a solar water heater for hot showers (WOOO!!!).

We had an enjoyable stay at Portofino, living the simple life, cooking, eating, surfing and going for walks. Such a nice chilled out place that you'd probably never stumble upon unless you're a surfer.
